Rural Physician testimonial: Registered nurses share the burden of care

Practicing Medicine within rural Saskatchewan is one of the most rewarding areas of the health care field. That is not to say it doesn't come with its own unique and often seemingly unending challenges. The only way I can provide the type of quality, effective and accessible care my patients need is with the help of a well-run team of other health care providers not least of which are the many registered nurses I have the privilege of working with. Whether in the hospital doing inpatient and emergency care, dealing with public health issues and education in schools or out in the field providing home care - they share the burden of care. But the RN's I work with do a lot more than care for our patients - they look after me too.

Dr. Reitz is a Saskatchewan Rural Physician and Clinical Lecturer with the Family Medicine Department at the University of Saskatchewan.
